The next World Cup is in 2030 in Spain, Portugal and Morocco. To mark the tournament’s 100th anniversary, the opening matches will be played in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay.

The FIFA World Cup has been held every four years since 1930; the 1942 and 1946 tournaments were cancelled because of the war. 23 World Cups have been played and 8 national teams have won the title.

The record holder is Brazil with 5 titles. In 2026 the tournament had 48 teams for the first time and was hosted by three countries — the USA, Canada and Mexico. World champion 2026: Spain.
